Highland House

A contemporary holiday home rooted in local materials, simple form and deeply connected to its landscape.

Set within the Scottish Highlands, this house is conceived as a quiet response to its rugged setting, shaped by local materials and a simple, legible composition.

The design concept is formed from a cluster of pitched volumes that echo the scale and rhythm of traditional Highland buildings, carefully arranged to frame views of the surrounding loch, woodland and hills. Locally sourced pine and locally stone are used for the external envelope, grounding the building in its place, while a red standing-seam zinc roof provides a contemporary counterpoint and subtly reflects the tones of the bracken-covered landscape beyond.

Winter rez

Our concept sought to balance robustness with warmth, creating a home that feels both sheltered and open to its environment.

Generous glazing connects the interior to the ever-changing light and seasons, while the restrained material palette ensures the architecture remains calm and enduring. The result is a modern Highland home that sits comfortably within its landscape—honest and  elemental.
