Rockley Cottage

Subtle refurbishment and extension of an historic Devon cottage

Located in a picturesque North Devon village, Rockley Cottage is a detached early 19th-century two-storey cottage set within a generous garden plot.

This project involved a sensitive reworking of the existing cottage layout and a modest extension to better connect the home to its garden and improve internal flow.

Our client opted for a light touch design from the outset, favouring minimal interventions that respect the historic fabric of the building while enhancing its usability and comfort.

This approach included minor internal reconfigurations on the ground floor to improve circulation, natural light, and spatial quality. A subtle single-storey link was introduced to connect the main house with an existing studio, which was converted into functional accommodation.

The design balances contemporary living needs with the character of the original structure, resulting in a calm, coherent home.
