A bespoke home balancing design ambition with practical family life

This contemporary house replaces a 1980’s bungalow owned by our client that had become outdated and unsuitable for modern family use. Our client asked us to help better utilise the bungalow’s site, maximise the sea views, natural light and provide open-plan living spaces suitable for family life and entertaining.

We developed designs for this large, five to six bedroom home to replace the bungalow and exceed our client’s expectations.

A feature staircase at the centre of this square-plan home sits below a large central rooflight, which floods the core with daylight. This reduces reliance on external windows, minimising potential overlooking issues and protecting privacy.

The ground floor houses kitchen, dining and living areas which all wrap around the central stair, plus a playroom which can be integrated via an openable screen and additional study, sixth bedroom and utility area.

Each of the five bedrooms on the first floor benefits from its own ensuite, whilst the principal bedroom features a recessed private balcony with a solid screen which ensures privacy whilst still creating a tranquil, nature-facing retreat.
